Serenade or harana in Tagalog is one of the few traditional ways a man can do to show his love for a woman. Among the ethnic groups in the Philippines, Yakans are the dominating tribe and group on the Basilan Island (a province in Mindanao that is under the region of ARMM – Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) that have their own song for serenading or courtship. It is called kelangan. Kelangan is a Yakan courtship song that can be sung by solo or by male and female groups responding to one another in gatherings.
